In making my own crochet brand I knew I would face obstacles. Mainly I assumed I would have to stop wearing so many statement rings, although I am constantly losing those in public toilets anyway.

I have adjusted my life around this craft as if it were my first-born. I have overcome many perilous obstacles in pursuit of ribbons and ruffles – one namely being having to change the way I hold yarn to accommodate my ever-growing witch talon nails. Truly a great sacrifice. However, nothing could have prepared me for this…

Hand surgery.

Nothing too dramatic, I have carpel tunnel. But as luck would have it, I have it in both hands.

I went to the doctor about my hands going numb in my sleep about a million years ago. I honestly forgot about it. I am a passionate believer in the NHS but I am not deluded enough to believe something as minor as numb hands would be dealt with swiftly. I ended up receiving a letter informing me my surgery for my first hand was on the 2nd of August.

So what did I do? I panic crocheted.

I made about 10 garments in a week while still teaching full time. Just urgent panicked hand-murdering crochet. The results… stunning I must say.

An the irony was not lost on me that once I filled my rail to the edges I received another letter… rescheduling my surgery… to October.
